I'm connecting my USB memory mobile phone to the XP computer and it says the device is malfunctioned, please try a different device. and also shows that it is unknown device.

try to install first the driver (the cd that goes together with ur phone when u bought it) of your phone to your computer.

USB gadgets fail often as a results of fact of their constanst utilization. Plugging and unplugging at last finally leads to failure of one type or yet another ie: bent plugs or touch placed on. If that is no longer the case then yet another treatment that has worked for me is to thoroughly skill down. Unplug the skill twine to the computing device and then replug and skill up. wish this helps.

your phone cannot be read as plug and play for your computer...get the driver a.k.a the installation cd for your phone added features...and retry...

This can happen with a faulty USB cable.
