Since Anthony Blair refuses to endorse him as next PM publicly I fear Gordon is in for a shafting plus of course he has the support of John Prescott, always an advantage.

It's likely that he will. At hte moment the only confirmed opponent will be ultra left wing John Mcdonall. At the electoral college the Mp's, and party membership will choose Gordon Brown, the Trades Unions it's too close to call.
John Reid may stand although there are several factors why he may not either stand or win.
He is currently the Home Secretary which is the most hazardous of ministerrial posts as the most could go wrong and public opinion (not that of labour members) could be bad for the party if he became leader.
He is also an ally and supporter of Blair which again the public may not like, but there will be sections of the labour membership who will not like this too.
He is sometimes percieved as arrogant
He appears more 'Scottish' than Brown
A more serious contender to go against Brown would be David Miliband the environment secretary but he has backed Brown for the leadership and so has ruled himself out of the race, but he will succeed the next leader and leader of the party

I'd really like to think Gordon Brown will be the next leader of the Labour party. I have always admired this man & his steadfast position & serious attitude towards his work. I think he has a brilliant mind & is so involved in what he does & believes unyieldingly in it that he would be perfect for the job.
No other candidate would come anywhere near him. He's got the best reputation & is so committed to what he does. I think we couldn't put the country in better hands, regardless of whether he's Scottish or not, he would have the country's best interest at heart as much as any other leader.
I've read a biography on him, he really is an incredible man, an no I haven't been paid to say these things I've just admired him for such a long time!

Sadly he will become the next PM.
What I find amusing is that it appears that 50% of New Labour MPs want to become Deputy PM. When looking at the perks versus the responsibilities (John Prescott) I can understand why. The money grabbing scum.

Possibly but politics has a strange way of being unpredictable. Who would have thought that Major would have succeeded Thatcher instead of Hesseltine.
Going way back and with hindsight it seems that Churchill was the obvious choice to take over from Chamberlain in 1940 but the one a lot of people thought would take over was Halifax, Churchill being seen as a bit of a loose cannon.

I'm sure He'd like to think so!! But I can see that 'thug' Reid manoeuvring himself into a position to run for the role.......It doesn't matter who gets the job though because at the next election they will be voted out of office based on the shambles they have created over the past 9 years!!

Yes he will, because he,s Scottish. He is an absolute failure at what he is doing now,so we know what to expect.Apart from the position of power he will also get a tax free pension unlike the rest of us peasants.Who wouldn.t want the job! It,s better than being a royal.

No he wont!. Because waiting quietly in the wings is David Millaband.
But that does not mean I think either of them will be in power!.
