My wife bought some draino to put in the toilet with the idea of improving the flush because sometimes it takes a couple of flushes to clear , sometime it will come back into the pan after a few minits. Problem is it says on canister don`t use in toilets or in pipes that lead to toilets !!Question is why and what else would you use this chemical for !!!

to open up your sink drains - its a very powerful chemical that works when it hits water - a toilet will flush it by the problem
(note you only use a cup of water to activate)

need to check your toilet for amount of water in the bowl prior to the flush - is it full?
when does the flapper close (when most of the water is gone? or still half full)

may need a new flapper

if all this is good and still have the problem - I used a product from Wal-Mart - Main Line Cleaner - pour the entire gallon in the toilet - ($10) also works wonders on sinks too - let sit 8 hrs - then flush

GOOD LUCK

I'm not sure either why you can't use it on a toilet. Maybe, because it gets too diluted in water. Check out your local hardware store for appropriate chemicals. The best thing you can do is to use a snake or plunger.

I'd call a professional because if your pipes are old, some of those chemicals (AND the snake) could damage them. It'll be worth the call. The plumber can tell you what the problem was, how to avoid it, as well as simple things you can do to prevent it.
