Without approving of this usage, I would say it means that you are going to receive medication before a procedure as a preventative measure.

It means that you have been given medicationn prior to the administration of other medications that might be given during a proceedure in order to counter side effects to what they give you during the operation, or whatever.

Atropine is commonly given to surgery patients to counter act the effects of anesthetics.
