It's just a worldwide commercial celebration and holiday except for true believers.

Same reason atheists in the West celebrate it.

Where are your the statistics that most Japanese don't have a religion?........Oh you don't have any! Don't state something that you don't know about. Not all Japanese people celebrate Christmas either....some Japanese are Christians.

Christmas is a kind of the festival for the many Japanese.
My friend had not known whose birthday too.
For many Japanese,Christmas is only a day which exchange the present for each other and to eat a cake .
(Of course, Santa Claus comes to the children even Japan. )
And, many young men don't believe Buddhism very much, either.
But, their funeral is held sternly in the Buddhist rites.
The fear for the dead person or the ancestor seems commonsense of the world.

Most Japanese do not celebrate Christmas. They just enjoy the season before their new year holidays.
Actually most ppl never pray and worship on the Christmas day. They don't know where is the church.
For Japanese girls, Christmas-eve is much important. Most famous restaurant would be fully reserved.

Over many centuries Christmas has become such a non-denomination holiday, that it doesn't require any religious context in order for people in the world to celebrate it.

Because christmas is completley made up, and is big business, everything to do with christmas costs money, it's a business model, westerners have bought it hook line and sinker, and it's just being exported to other countries.
