"though in the modernworld where ppl r equals according to constitution, it doesnt hold good."

That is absolutely not true. The vast majority of people, perhaps especially in the modern world, are ethnocentric. I don't necessarily think it a completely bad thing, people should take pride in their homes. Also, I'm not a cultural relativist. Not everything can be made OK just because it's part of someones heritage. For example, I don't object much to the Birka (provided that women want to wear it, as many do), but female castration is just wrong. However, it can very often cause cultural misunderstandings that become a source of strife between peoples.

Many anthropologists exhibit degrees of ethnocentrism, too. We aren't immune to it by any means. For example, many people, including scientists, think that central Europe (France particuarly) is the birthplace of "art" because of the cave paintings there. This is completely wrong, and it has been proven that abstract depiction originated in Africa (probably first) and other parts of the world before European cave paintings.

Ethnocentrism is not the opposite of egalitarianism.

Ethnocentrism refers to reading and judging the world in terms of the values and knowledge of your own culture exclusively. It doesn't necessarily mean you are elitist, but it suggests your vision of the world is narrow. Personally I think all people are born ethnocentric, and it is something very hard to shake off.

Egalitarianism refers to any policy or belief that seeks to reduce inequality between groups of people.
