We all know that Solomon said, 'do not flog your public officials or you will be ruled by the corrupt', but something has to be done, so how about cutting pensions?

Both answers are brilliant. Dorian, I like that. I allways did wonder what he meant and it just takes a lot of time to go into the history and the ancient Hebrew etc.

If I may do "a slight" correction to your interpetation of Solomn here.
Solomon was speaking of an unjust people taking it out on their public officials.
Now, as to "present" as was "then" proven "beyond reasonable doubt"corrupted politiocians, what's wrong with Jail?..."corupted is also a word for bribery for favors=stealing=treason against those whom trusted you to represent them and look after their nation. Correct?

if you reduce their pensions they being corrupted will find other means to get the $$$ to live beyond their means and to fulfill their greed. Firstly you must have a good honest government which is not found today, proper and strong laws against corruption and enforcement of the law - long jail terms etc. This is not an easy task as the whole machinery must work towards it. When a society is corrupted, it is corrupted in almost any and every facet of governance. It is tough to break from it except with strong government and a strong public reaction against corruption. Vote them out, chastise them, imprison them for they are taking away from the populace that which is not theirs. Its not easy

dorianlakl got it right for once, you are misstating Solomons statement, Any one who is elected by the people for their protection or hired for their protection and fails deliberately should be punished severely, if they steal from their constituents punishment should d be at least double the prescribed penalty, and should always serve time in prison, If they sell our secrets to another country friendly or otherwise they should be tried as spy's and punished likewise,If they renege on a campaign promise they should be impeached the minute the lie is discovered, no exceptions, and the people should always be vigilant in all of our political processions,we have been warned by our forefathers, strange how smart they were to see 200 years ahead when our people can't see one day ahead today,

Disqualify them from holding any public office when proven guilty and forfeit all government benefits entitled to them. They have already taken so much already!!!!
