how do i seperate the icons on my desktop?

my computer runs windows xp sp pack2 wat do i do to seperate the icons on my screen such tht i can keep documents on one side and shortcuts on the other

You right click on your desk top, go to arrange icons and unclick auto arrange and align to grid. Then you can do what ever you want to your desk top.

Click and drag them to where you want them, then right-click on the desktop and choose "align to grid."

Suggest you don't drag them too close to the edge. If you ever have need to go into Safe Mode, they will mess up and you will have to arrange all over again.
