What did you do or not do to someone which created a great wound in that person's life. Would you be willing to help fix the problem and bring them peace even if it cost you personally?
Could you be that noble and brave to bring them peace?
Could you say you were sorry expecting nothing back from that person?

When my father was alive I criticized the way I was raised to him and it bothered him. When he was dieing he was feeling sorry for himself and made a comment about raising us badly. That really bothered me.I told him we were the fruits of his labor and if he liked the way we turned out he could be proud.

I don't want to get into the specifics. It was a terrible thing that I'm very ashamed of. But I did everything you listed. I wanted to fix it. I poured out my entire soul thinking that the more this person knew the more they would hate me. But I knew I had to be honest to make things right. So, knowing I might ruin the relationship forever, I was totally honest. I expected nothing back in return. In fact, I expected they'd hit the road and never look back. I underestimated this person. We have a stronger relationship than ever before. This person has been totally understanding and forgiving and never brings the issue up. I still think about it with deep regret but I don't dwell on it because I can't change it. I just do the best I can to make this person happy as I move forward. That is all I can do.
