Straight Edgers abstain from smoking, drugs, alcohol, sex, and animal products. Not necessarily all of these things. It is a lifestyle and personal commitment.

Straight edge was originally inspired by a punk band called Minor Threat.
Some straight edgers are athiests and anarchists.
Oct. 17th is National Edge Day.. an unofficial holiday recognizing the straight edge subculture.

It is someone who sets high goals to abstain from certain things that they feel will jeoporde themselves in any way. A non smoker is sometimes considered a straight edge because they stand firm on not wanting to consume something that will harm them in the long run. They are one to go on a straight "narrow" way of life usually avoiding the flock of sheep. In most cases, they abstain from drugs, sex and alcohol.
