You're out of luck...you have to either get 4" heels or stick with these. They can't be shortened.

You can't shorten heels. You could chop it off, but the rest of the heel is molded so that your feet are arched to a certain height, so it won't work.
Return the shoes, or wear them at 5 inches.

If you wanted 4" shoes, why did you even buy 5" shoes? Maybe you should try a shoe repair shop.
