Work out at least 3 times a week for 20-30 minutes at a time. Cut back your caloric intake to about 1200 to 1500 calories per day. Eat 3 meals a day and include small snacks. This will increase your metabolism. Start lifting weights to build muscle. Muscle needs more calories than fat. This too increases your metabolism. Drink plenty of water.

A good place to start is with your doctor. He/she can also refer you to a dietian who can councel you on the proper foods to eat and the proper amounts. Your doctor can also do tests to see if there is a metabolic reason why you have gained weight.

Fad diets don't work. You need to change your eating habits and get some/more exercise.

If you don't want to go that route Weight Watchers has been proven the only "diet plan" that works and works for life.

I wish you good luck and good health.

eat a varied very high protein, high fiber diet low in saturated fats and refined carbs. shun additives and preservatives. you want fresh whole foods, not overcooked. eat leafy greens and colourful vegetables. eat tree nuts, eat fish, eat more fish, the more nutritious fruits (berries, etc.), herbs, legumes, and some grains. don't eat sweets or drink sweet/sour drinks. instead eat fruit.

take a good multivitamin most days with a meal. while you are at it take a calcium-magnesium-zinc pill, unless by some miracle you get enough calcium. (or you take a calcium-based antacid) also, get lots of beneficial fatty acids - particularly omega-3. take a gram of fish oil daily.

then try getting lots of sunlight. get some vigorous cardiovascular exercise as often as you can. practise good posture and learn a little about basic yoga postures and t'ai chi warmups.

stay hydrated. this can be a matter of simply avoiding certain foods that dehydrate you. try to get plenty of regular, restful sleep.

I recommend eating whenever hungry and getting protein + fiber + good fats for breakfast lunch and dinner. Then use good quality exercise to burn it off and build practical muscles. (work on leg and core strength)
