Like every other job, you will have good days and bad days!
Can you please tell us why your mother dislikes the idea of you becoming a teacher?

When chosing a profession, you have to look at many factors. Can you get a job in that field? Are you going to like working in that field? What education is required for you to be a teacher or whatever. How good are you at working with people. Teaching can be a very challenging profession , especially now. The rules are changing and politics seem to be weighing down what the good that good teachers can do. For this reason many good teachers leave the field. Also, remember teaching is a career that guarentees you continuous extra college classes, low pay-checks, added expensive and after hours work, and lots of politics. Our generation is unlike the generations before. Before adults started in a field and then stayed there...forever. Whether they loked the job or not. Now adays it is not uncommon for a person to change careers up to 7 times in their life. Make sure that you don't lock yourself into only one prefession so if something happens, or you don't like your chosen career, there will always be another on to fall back on.

I am a Science Education major at East Carolina University, and if you really want to be a teacher I say go for it, I have done my student teaching and absolutely loved it, and can't wait to graduate and get a job.

One suggestion would be to look into universities that have a general Science Education program, rather than a specific program, such as Biology Education. A degree in Science Education allows you to teach any science that is offered (I assume you want to teach at a high school level), while specific programs only allow you to teach that specific subject, so you may not have any variety in your day.

Another suggestion, make sure that you know what requirements the state you want to teach in has for teaching. For example, do you want to get a Master's degree or not, because that can truly affect where you can teach.

ugh I hate biology! sorry-I just hate all science subjects. I'd like to teach when I leave school as well though. I'd teach children, never teenagers! teaching is one of the most stressful jobs-you'll get a lot of abuse particularly with teenagers. plus you'll have all those parents to deal with, all that work to prepare...but if you're a good person and a decent teacher the stress should pay off. make sure you get some work experience helping in a school before you make any definite decisions-good luck :D

Whatever makes you happy. You'll be living your life, do you want to be miserable liviing through your mom's dreams and goals? Keep talking to her about YOUR dreams and passions. Maybe she'll begin to see it differently.

I went through the same thing when I told my parents that I wanted to get into social work. After seeing what I have been accomplishing so far at school and volunteering AND talking about what I want to do with my education and career (It'll be hard to discuss this ) they began to seem okay with my decision. Sometimes being hard-headed pays off. Good luck and keep fighting.

Be a teacher, when you get out of your mom's house she can't tell you what you want to be.She has the problem of letting you be a teacher. If that's what you want to be go for it.Remember, every one is a teacher of some sort.
