Thoughts? Better for a certain skintype? I know there are several brands out there these days -- Bare Minerals, Everyday Minerals, Your Aunt Betty's Minerals... any brand better than another? Anyone absolutely abhor the stuff? Just trying to find out if it's really worth the cost, or if it's simply over-hyped and over-priced and I should stick with the regular stuff.

Bare minerals is a bit pricy but it's wonderful and great for sensitive skin ...you have to try it atleast once.

I have been using bare minerals for over two years. i would never put liquid on my face again. I love bare minerals. It is good for most skin types especially sensitive skin, although I would steer clear of it if you have severe acne because it has a very luminous finish and that can make the bumps on your face seem more prominant. It gives excellent coverage if you have uneven skin tone or smaller blemishes. It feels and looks like you are not wearing anything as long as it is applied in the right amounts. Less is more with mineral makeup. You can buy the starter kit on line or through the websit or at Sephora or Ulta. Then You can buy the lareger refills at Sephora or ulta or online for about 20.00 This size container lasts me about 6 months. I still have my original container of warmth from my starter kit 2 years ago and it looks like I still have a full container, even though I use warmth everyday. So the products really do last a long time. Also, the make up is actually good for your skin and you can even sleep in it if you wish. i have noticed big changes in my skin since I started using it. My redness has diminished, It is less dry, and I get less breakouts. I wouldn't go a day without it, and in my opinion Bare Minerals is the best makeup on the planet, though I haven't used any of the other brands you have mentioned

Well, if you aren't too sure about mineral makeup, you should try a drugstore brand just to see if you even like it. I tried L 'Oreal's brand, Bare Naturals (??). I liked it a lot, but it was geared toward oilier skin. I know that Neutrogena has Mineral Sheers and Physician's Formula has a fairly decent drugstore product.
As far as salon grade mineral makeup...
I have REALLY sensitive skin and I can't use products with Bismuth Oxychloride, Bare Minerals has this ingredient and therefore I will not use it. BM also has a lot of junk in their mineral veil that does nothing but clog pores. It works for a lot of people, but my skin is already tempermental and I need a sensitive product.
I use Everyday Minerals. I really champion this particular product because my skin has never been healthier. I rarely break out and that is usually attributed to not washing my face with blemish control products.
Anyways, EM is awesome. They have specialized products for skin types, a HUGE variety of shades, concealers, eye shadows and lip colors. The customer service is amazing and they really listen to the people who use their product. Plus they are reasonably priced, in my opinion.
Check it out. www.everydayminerals.com.
Also check out www.makeupalley.com for what people had to say about the different varieties of mineral makeup. There you can read the good and the bad!
Good luck!

I will be 40 in December & in the past year started noticing major compexion changes. Have always taken care of my skin so I was really bummed. Tried new moisturizers, microdermabrasion...no help..Ordered the Bare Minerals starter kit and I am totally a convert. My skin looks and feels better. Will never use drugstore or department store make up again. Have not tried any other brand..Will stick with Bare Minerals.

I love the mineral make-up & will never go back to traditional make-up again, ever. It's well worth the price. I'm sure all of the brands are good, it's a matter of personal choice. I perfer Jane Iredale pressed minerals, it doesn't make a mess like the loose powders & makes your skin absoutely flawless. Physican's Formula(mineral wear)makes some that's sold at drug stores for about $11 & works just as well. I just really perfer Jane Iredale it's a tad better & well worth the price. Good luck.

i love it! i've used bare minerals for the past two years and i absolutely love it. it covers well and you can go to sephora to get it in kits that come with:
-two shades of foundation (shades vary depending on which kit you choose, like light or dark or medium)
-a rever upper for before applications
-mineral veil that gives you a glow after you finish
-warmth that's like a bronzer
-3 brushes (concealer, application, kabuki)
-a dvd to teach you how to do it
all for $60! it's great. :) each kit lasts me about 2-3 months
and it really does cover amazingly. i recommend it to everyone!
