If you want to check to see if a car is reported stolen, call your local law enforcement office and ask them to run the VIN through NCIC (National Crime Information Computer). They will not give you any information about the owner of the car, but they will tell you if it is reported stolen!

nicb.org checks for stolen cars records for free. If you need a complete
history, they aren't free. You can get cheap vehicle reports at VinAudit
