I saw the Poseidon movie and wonder if it is a real story/event that had happened just like Titanic?

Poseidon is a Greek Mythical Creature. I honestly don't think the story is true. Makes for one good movie though.
"Poseidon was the god of the sea, earthquakes and horses. Although he was officially one of the supreme gods of Mount Olympus, he spent most of his time in his watery domain. Poseidon was brother to Zeus and Hades. These three gods divided up creation. Zeus became ruler of the sky, Hades got dominion of the Underworld and Poseidon was given all water, both fresh and salt."
I don't know how he got to be god of horses when he was all about water .. and wouldn't hurricanes be more believable?

the poseidon was a real ship and it did sink years before the titanic did so yeh its based on a real story anyway
