I've never had a yeast infection before, so I'm not sure what exactly is going on. The skin around my vagina is pretty red and irritated and itches quite often. However, I don't have any unusual discharge or odor or any pain that could be associated with a yeast infection. Other than the redness and the itching, everything seems normal. As such, I'm not quite sure what it could be and I don't want to treat it as a yeast infection if that's not what it is. I won't be able to see a doctor for another couple of weeks because that's when my health insurance kicks in. It's getting kind of annoying, so if there's any way I can take care of the problem before then that would be fantastic.

Any advice appreciated!

Just to let you all know....I'm not sexually active so STDs can be ruled out.

I don't think it's my laundry detergent, but I could maybe try out a different one. Until recently I always used to wash the area with whatever body wash I was using, but stopped doing that and started using just soap and water.

With a yeast infection, common symptoms are a cheesy white discharge, irritation, intense burning and itching, and redness in the area.

However, you don't have to have ALL of these symptoms.

While I wouldn't recommend any over the counter remedies or douches just yet, you could try a less expensive natural approach. Eat plenty of yogurt, cut down on sugar, etc. Also, spread some of that yogurt around your labia, as the bacteria compete with the fungal candida...if it is in fact a yeast infection. That way, you may nip it in the bud before a discharge, odor, or pain rear their ugly heads.

If the symptoms worsen, there's a vareity of over-the-counter remedies that will suit ya just fine.

yeast infection or any other type of infection for that matter will cause a foul smelling discharge and a general odor from your vagina. If all you have is redness and itching then it is possible you are having a reaction to something. Did you just change your soap or laundry detergent? If not then it could be that you have a STD. If you look at your vagina with a mirror and inspect the folds of the outer and inner lips do you see any bumps or clusters? If so then you need to see a doctor NOW. Also it could be crabs. Take a comb and comb your pubic hair if you see any little bugs on the comb then you have crabs or lice. you can go to a local drug store and buy treatment for that over the counter.

Hello, I'm on the second week and seeing definite improvement on my yeast infection symptoms:

Note that: If the yeast infection doesn't respond to over the counter treatment, prescription medication will likely be necessary. Similarly, if the symptoms return after two months of being treated, you should contact the doctor for professional treatment rather than resorting again to home treatment.

If this is the first time you have experienced a yeast infection, you should schedule an appointment to have the condition treated by a doctor instead of resorting to home treatment

Sounds like a reaction to something, maybe a new soap or laundry detergent, but thats only a guess on my part. No discharge then not a yeast infection as far as I know.

First of all things get taken different when you read them then when someone is saying them so please don't take any of this offensively.. but you REALLY need to see a doctor. This does not sound like a yeast infection at all. Especially if you have been sleeping with someone it sounds much more like an STD .. try a clinic that accepts patients without insurance .. you really don't want to ignore something like this

You could have an allergy to the soap you have started using.
Otherwise, it sounds like vulvodynia.

Try washing with water without soap for a few days and see if the inflammation goes down. Also see the link for information. Vulvodynia is difficult to explain and can be very frustrating because there's isn't always a magic bullet cure for it. Good luck!
