I bought an E Machine tower around 1995-6 which my daughter has at her house. I won a computer from Puget Sound Computer User magazine around 2000, on the front it says ACN Pentium III. Both have had upgrades here and there, but still have slow issues and wigging out issues sometimes.
......................
We need new computers. We both have DSL through the phone company, need lots of space (and speed), and I want to find a good lowest price for getting two desktops.
Any suggestions?
..........................
ALSO, since these still work, we could donate them but I would need to know how to completely delete any reference to our names on them, like with any registrations, anywhere our names might pop up in the future. .............. Thanks!

Hello,
If you like you can do as the others suggest and go with a dell (because they are cheaper), but you must know that when you buy a dell, whenever you wish to upgrade your components, no matter what it be, mouse, keyboard, memory or the like. You can buy from no one but dell. (they restrict your upgrade choices only to them) You cannot purchase over the counter computer upgrades, you have to go with dell, or the device will not work. Im not talking about printers or scanners, just upgradables. So it would be best to go with a Mac (apple) since they are less prone to hackers, virus, and sluggishness. But their also more expensive, and but worth it.
Good Luck

I think e-machines computers usually have a disk that will allow you to restore it to factory settings. First of all e-machines made horrible cheap computers in my opinion. Anyway it's a good idea to format the drives first and then reinstall everything.
The cheapest way to get a computer is to build it yourself. This I only recommend for advanced users, but you can buy all the components from www.newegg.com
Either that or you might as well purchase what you want from hp or dell. If you have any questions about hardware specifically send me a message. You can also try this http://www.monarchcomputer.com/

You can get a good deal from Dell or tiger direct might be a little cheaper but I would go with dell. It's a nice thing that you want to donate your old computer but just to let you know some places wont accept computers that are to old the just don't have enough power to do whats needed.

The Hp Pavilion includes a 19" TFT screen while the others don't come with any displays. If cost is of the utmost priority buy the pavilion. However if u could invest more go for the acer aspire since it has a far superior specification. However, I think that the monitor is optional. Also consider investing in a bigger screen as the extra screen space would be of great use while browsing the web.

I have been computer shopping myself lately. Learning more and more is confusing, however, AMD Sempron is good but AMD Athlon 64 3500 or 64 3800 is better.
AMD is replacing Intel. AMD is much faster, lasts years longer and apparently Intel is one the way out.
Best space and speed to look for: Hard Drive 250GB, Memory 256MB.
I'm not sure which brand is better. Just as long as it has these qualifications is all that matters. And of course price changes from brand to brand.
I wish us both lots of luck.

I suggest a Dell for anyone who is not building their own computer. Windows Vista is coming out soon. You may want to wait till it does, so you don't need to switch operating systems right away.
open computer, pull out hard drive(s), set computer by dumpster, preferably on a college campus
disassemble hard drive and keep the ultra-powerful magnets. nail them to the wall in your utility closet and hang tools on them.

I.M.H.O. Don't Bye Gateway. Take out your Hard drive if you donate your old computers to some one. That is the only safe way to protect yourself.
