Something like a flight sim that doesn't have much market competition could take 6 months or longer to drop 10 or 15 dollars in price. MS' Sim X won't have an update for a while; a title like EA's Madden drops after 7 months or so, then drops again as the new version comes out. I would ask for the game for Christmas if you really want it. It's not likely to drop in price anytime soon.

Usually obscure games get a price drop in about 3 months.
