You need to run an anti spyeware, preferable in Safe Mode. Norton is an anti virus and it won't find spyware (trojans.)

Before attempting to remove malware you must switch off System Restore as back up files will be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode
repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads.
You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Then beef up your security. Its easier to prevent malware getting on to your sytem in the first place rather than trying to remove it. All the following programs are free for personal use;

You need to install one firewall.
The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out.
Your Norton firewall, or

You need to install one anti virus;
your Norton anti virus. Or

You need all three anti spyware programs;

Instal both these web browsers, turn off javascript on one and use that browser for vising unknown websites. They don't support Active X so thats one less way for problems to get on your pc.

changes to your startup folder.

Remember to update and run all of you anti malware programs at least once a week.

I know this is a lot of info but just be patient and work through it.

If norton is not working have you tried the update on the norton site. If, after doing that it still will not let you get rid of a virus then go to www.microsoft.co.uk/security and in the scroll bar on the left there are loads of free downloads straight from microsoft so you know they are safe. They do a free spyware check on there and it deletes any trojans or other viruses it picks up on.

Classic is right on with the AVG free; I'm running it now. Also, Zone Alarm free is a great firewall. Forget Windows Firewall; it's a piece of crap. Download the files, SAVE them to a folder on your desktop, rip the junk out of your program files, (Norton) and restart. After restart, unzip the files or open them to install them. You might have to do another restart.....and don't go surfing while you're doing this. Wait until your new anti-virus and firewall are completely installed.

SHUT OFF the Windows Firewall once the Zone Alarm is up and running.

Run Firefox as your browser, not only is it high security, it has tons of free, cool applications you can add.........like "McAfee Site Advisor" which will tell you right on your search page whether a site is safe to visit or not.

Microsoft's IE 7........it blocks the scanning capabilities of my HP Printer......I had to dump IE 7 and go back to 6. I only use IE when I absolutely HAVE to.

Forget norton and use these .

All of these are ones that I personally use and all are free.

AVG Removes I-Worm/Stration · BackDoor.Generic3.GBB and .GBC · Worm/Generic.FX · Exploit.WMF

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

Do some free online scans, there is no need to download anything as the others have said. Downloading another malware program will only conflict with the Norton that you already have which will make both the new program and your Norton useless.

Do both of these free online scans that will scan and remove the "baddies"

BitDefender:
http://www.bitdefender.com/site/home/

Ewido:
http://www.ewido.net/en/

Both are very good at trojan detection and removal.

Good luck.
