my daughter when born, had some problems and was in the hospital for 3 weeks.. everytime I visited she was asleep.. all the time it seemed, even when I would spend hours there just rocking her and feeding her.. The nurses kept telling me what a lively little girl I had.. I didnt understand until I brought her home.. the sleeping stopped and when she was awake, she wailed non stop and wriggled and moved until she slept again.. So relish in the early weeks of your newborn while she sleeps. She wont for long.. Congratulations!... Great time to bond, just lay next to her and stare at her, You'll soon fall in love with that tiny little face and rosebud lips, and button nose.. They are so precious..

My baby, who is now 3 1/2 weeks old, slept for 2 weeks straight when we came home from the hospital. If she wasn't eating or getting her diaper changed, she was asleep. And she can sleep through ANYTHING. We have 3 noisy dogs and their barking doesn't bother her in the least. Just this past week she's really started to become active and alert. She still sleeps a lot but it's for shorter periods of time and she'll stay awake for up to 3 hours at a time now during the day. ENJOY the first 2 weeks, those are your grace period. By week 3 your baby will have changed so much you will hardly believe it! If you really need to wake her up for some reason, the only things I found that worked for my baby were changing her diaper and/or clothes or giving her a warm sponge bath. NOTHING else would wake her. My advice would be don't ever wake her if you don't have to though. She needs her sleep and so do you so take advantage of this time.

The newborn baby sleeps most of the time in the early weeks and I wouldn't recommend waking her up as your wife will kill you. lol. The new mum needs all the rest she can get as the baby wakes during the night. The length of sleep required gets less in the coming weeks as the baby gets a little older. Tell your wife to try and get some sleep while the baby is sleeping for her energy levels. I suggest you research and read some articles on newborn babies. Congratulations on your new baby!

You should be glad that the kid sleeps well. It's normal and most parents wish that their babies would sleep for more than 3 hours straight to allow them some rest. My ant had a baby not too long ago. When she came home, the baby slept most of the time. Most babies do that and the doctor says that it's normal. There are some things you could do to wake them up: Start changing their diaper, Start feeding them, take off their clothes and prepare them for a bath, turn on their musical overhead toy. One of those methods is sure to work. good luck

It is normal for newborns to sleep most of the time...You can gently rub the back while you are holding the baby or they are laying down to wake them.. Even their wrist...It is ok to wake them sometimes just not a whole lot it is not that it will hurt them but once their sleep pattern gets interrupted it can be hard to get it smoothed back out...Good luck with your little one...{a child steps on your toes while they are young and steps on your heart when they are older} from a mom of 3

It is normal for newborns to sleep up to 19 hours a day, if you wake her that will be okay but you know the saying "never wake a sleeping baby"

Good luck and congrats

Yes, it is normal- and you are lucky. Waking her is important so that she eats, however.
Give her a slightly warm bath to wake her. If she is eating- no worries.
She need not wake but for a couple of hours a day, first week.

Congratulations! How exciting!

Yes, they sleep a lot, and then wake up to eat and possibly cry a lot. Then back to sleep.
Use this time to catch up on sleep yourself!!

If you're worried she hasn't eaten enough, or really is sleeping too much without waking, try gently lifting her up to carry her, or rubbing your finger on her cheek softly. You could also say something, call her by her name (she obviously won't recognize it, but it's good to get her used to hearing it).

It's normal but too wake her up just do all the things you may think are annoying. Play with her feet or something gentle like that.
