"Dacay" of uranium and fusion of hydrogen are called "nuclear" reactions. They are different from chemical reactions. In nuclear reactions, the mass of the particles after the reaction is always less than the mass of the particles before. The difference in mass is converted to energy in accordance with E=mc^2.

In chemical reactions, the mass of the particles is the same before and after the reaction.
