...to love an animated character...? yes, though many, especially young lonely people who are socially unsure of themselves do it. Unfortunately, this only leads to further isolation and a vicious cycle of bitterness or escape through fantasizing.

It is never useless to love real people (provided there is some real contact and communication, not just idolizing someone without ever talking to them- that would be almost the same as loving a toon.) Even if love is not reciprocated, the person who cares for the beloved and has the beloved's best interests at heart grows and becomes a better person for having loved.

Sadly, many selfish persons convince themselves that they love someone when they are only acting in their own interest. They do not want an equal, a partner, someone to love and be loved by-- they want a puppet.

No, your parents love you. If they didn't, you wouldn't be the person you are today.

So yes, if you have children, or are planning to have some, it's not useless to love. It's a requirement.

By the way, why is this in the "Comics and Animation" section?

To love someone has nothing to do with their personality. For example: a family member. This relative could be the kind of person that if you met them on the street you would walk away quickly, but you are related and have a history so you can't help but love them.

It is good to love but is bad to put too much into a relationship with one you don't know well.

No. You just keep on trying and trying until you find the right one because those people you met along the way while looking for that great love actually makes you a better individual. And the good thing about it is that when you finally find "the one", you are much more prepared. =)

Yeah, that is the story. So you may as well stay in your parent's basement with your comics collection and video games until you die.
