Many people don't like to hear the truth when it doesn't follow their beliefs or it isn't nice?
P.S. This is not a religious question, it is a broad question.

Great answers people. I really appreciate it, I agree, truth can hurt anyone, I guess I meant, is it harder to accept, but I guess it is obviously harder for stubborn people because that is what stubborn is.

And people, there is more than one definition to truth. I am using the one that is equal to fact. So in this case, the belief that the world was flat would not be the truth. I'm not talking about the general acceptance definition of truth.

No, the truth is an equal opportunity source of pain for many. We must learn to be brutally honest with ourselves and patient and kind with others. However, there are times you just need to tell someone the truth. Be as gentle and as forthright as you can please. It hurts, so give them some comfort while you are delivering the "blow".
Peace.

"Truth" as it stands alone, cannot be given a distinct value by any one person or any group of people. This is because truth in itself has what is called intrinsic value. Which means that, at its very core, it is a good or "positive" thing. Every situation in which truth must eventually come into play, the truth itself can be received with joy, sadness, or apathy. I do not think that whoever receives the truth must react in any certain way. And I also do not think that the way a person must react to the truth directly reflects the strengths or weaknesses that that individual posseses; not by any means. And those that do not like to hear truth, or choose not to believe in a truth that violates their predetermined set of mores or beliefs are only human. Men do not like to hear that their wives are cheating; people do not want to believe that they are diagnosed with cancer; no one wants to learn that their faith has no foundation; and no one wants to believe that their best friend has actually passed away.
I hope this helps.

Well for one, do you believe you hold the key to all truth? At one time truth held the earth was flat and the sun revolved around the earth. Someone may be ugly to many, but not all, so is their ugliness the truth? It would be a much nicer world if people tended to their own business than that of otherer's: or as Christ said, 'see to the board in your own eye and not to splinter in another's.

The truth can hurt the strong minded and willed too. Everyone has a different idea of what the truth to anything is. Just because one person believes something to be true doesnt necessarily make it true. What might hurt one person might make another laugh. Everyone is different and believes in different things and how they see things as being true or not. It has nothing to do if someone is weak or strong minded.

I'm always right. Some peoples perception of reality can be different than others. With that logic only things that can be proven can be considered the truth and it's quite hard to prove something 100% without a doubt. Hell even the theory of relativity is still a theory, but we have an bomb that obviously uses it.

Depends on what kind of truth. Subjective truth, God ? Well people tend to get irritated when you question their beliefs.
Perceptive truth, that doesn't look good on you.
Actual truth, the world is round.
Beliefs are not truth they are beliefs, I believe in keeping an open mind but not so open my brain falls out.

Yes, people who are smart and understand things will take the truth as a good thing. I know that somethings can hurt feelings but TRUTH is always best.

Yes, I think so. Open minded, honest people would want to know what the truth is, regardless of whether it's hard to accept or not.

I teach my children that if people can't handle the truth then they are not worth thier time. If you can't handle the truth-get over it cause I usually tell it like it is. I don't care about hurt feelings. The way I see it, If you have a friend who is FAT and she says "do i look fat?" I am gonna say, yes you do look fat. Why tell her she is not? she already knows she is!
And I think the truth hurts only the weak minded and stupid.
