The only thing that could cause America to collapse is if we continue down the spiral of Americans-hating-Americans that you see here on YA.

Our ability to disagree, but fundamentally recognize each other as valid Americans, is the only thing that separates us from becoming like the Sunnis and Shiiites.

And don't think for a second that this isn't precisely what the terrorists are after. Everything they do, everything they say (in public pronouncements) is specifically designed to turn Americans against Americans.

America will fall from pride, we have everything, soo much that we do not even appreciate. I believe it will start with a depression. In 2005 Americans spent more money than they earned, a very dangerous thing. The housing market has sky-rocketed the cost of rent, and incomes havent raised to meet this. Interest rates being low have helped the middle class, but the lower class are struggling harder than ever. All we need is a recession large enough to send un-employment up to about 10 to 15 percent, and one robin hood to pull everyone together. civil war the lower class vs the upper class...... while we are fighting amongst ourselves some of the people we have pissed on in the recent past will come in and add a few more deaths for their revenge...

Two reasons:

1. The government:
President Chimpy, his creepy Uncle Dick, and the rest of their corrupt cronies have spent the past 6 years flushing America down the toilet. It's not totally his fault; All nations collapse eventually. But BushCo has done an amazing job of speeding up that process for our country. It's sad, really. Our political system has been broken for quite some time, but Dubya's joke of a presidency was the last straw.

2. The people:
Most Americans are too apathetic, ignorant, and lazy to care (or even realize) that their paradise is collapsing around them. As self-absorbed consumers, all they care about is stuffing their faces with their McDonalds while they sit on their fat asses and watch NASCAR or Survivor on the big-screen TV that they bought at Wal-Mart and brought home in their 8-miles-to-the-gallon SUV land yacht!
And most of them are so completely suckered by the parody of democracy called the "2-party system" that they are too blind to see how ineffective both parties (especially the Repubs) really are. Instead, they bi+ch and complain about the poor job party A is doing and, when an election comes, they replace party A with party B. Then they gripe about party B for the next few years until the next election, when the put party A back in power. Pointless. Yet it continues, endlessly, and all the while the general public seems not to care, or even realize, that both of the 2 main parties are bought and sold by the corporations who, of course, NEVER have our best interest in mind.
