It makes me sick and sad. I personally won't look at anything that has to do with Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving. This year I suggested to my family that we take care of the childrens Christmas gifts but it ends there. No gifts for the adults. I want to go out and look at the lights, listen to the carols, take my family to some of the Christmas shows and enjoy a wonderful Christmas dinner much like Thanksgiving dinner without all the commercialism. I never have time for those things I spend so much time trying to figure out what to buy for people. Generally most of the adults don't need anything! I know I don't. Happy Thanksgiving to you, enjoy your holiday and don't let retailers ruin it for you.

Actually, we see Halloween in the stores by mid-September and before they've even cleared out that stuff after Halloween, the Thanksgiving and Christmas stuff are already on the shelves.

I don't think there is any way to stop the commercialism. People care more about making money on holiday stuff than they do about the holiday itself. Christians could boycott, but when athiests and Buddhists and everbody else celebrates Christmas (just for the gift giving and not for Christ), the stores still rake in their money.

Keep Thanksgiving and Christmas in your heart and they will survive.

I believe that in 20 years or less Thanksgiving will not be recognized as we know it today. It will become a personally celebrated time within the confines of your home. Why is this? Because there is no profit to retail ( hence the reason for jumping right into Christmas ), people have/are losing the real meaning to the Holiday, and family values are diminishing/have been diminished.

To be honest..I was jarred right after Labour Day when I actually got the first buzz of Christmas. I was stunned. I love Thanksgiving just as much if not more thank Christmas.... in fact for me...it is one long day from Thanksgiving until Christmas. However your point is well taken.
I will be alone this year and I do not want to be.....I am not complaining. It beats the hell out of the years and years of spending it with people who with had hearts of stone.
Marketing.....
Sad isn't it?

I use to get upset because of the commercialism But I changed my thoughts. I love Christmas, so for me, I don't mind having the Christmas season last even longer. It does give me more time to prepare to give more attention to many, then the few I could only attend to before (because of so few non-working days)
Long ago, certain Celebrations could last for months, so I personally have been getting joy out of an extended season!

My home has more time to make all festive and I relax with the open weekends to go to parties etc. NO STRESS, it's great:)

The retailer doesn't get my money because they say it is time for Christmas. They get my money, because I found something great for my loved ones a few weeks before Thanksgiving.

I never thought I would ever be saying this, but I am thankful the stores are helping me out. My family is thankful too!

I love a wrapped gift just waiting to be given, even if I have to wait longer to give it, the anticipation is worth it! Merry Christmas!

Yes,
...family was just talking about that yesterday.
I believe retailers think there were not enough profits last year. I remember something about last year being a shorter shopping season between Thanksgiving and Christams.

They really got carried away with all the Christmas commercials THIS year.

When I went to the grocery store on Friday, a Salvation Army bell ringer was there. With so many needs and fewer donations, they have to start earlier....but still.....before Thanksgiving?

People really don't decorate for Thanksgiving, most focus on family and the meal. They do have some fall/autumn decorations, like table cloths and wreaths. Alot decorate for the holidays with lights and other decorations.

I never really remember a time when there was anything "Thanksgivingy" out there. I've always remembered Christmas stuff going out pretty much right after Halloween.

Yeah, it's called the Christmas Creep. Damn thing keeps coming up sooner and sooner, every year. This year, I've seen ornaments and such on the shelves since mid-October. Give it a rest, I say.
