i have a 1992 Chevrolet Camaro RS with a 3.1L V-6. i start my car and it turns over and runs but my starter stays kicked in and as soon as i turn of the ignition the starter keeps going and then stops after 30 sec or so. sometimes the starter wont even move when i try to start the car.

Sounds like the starter solenoid is shot. This is an electromagnet with a core that throws the starter gear into engagement with the flywheel and connects power to the starting motor. The little cylinder off to the side. You can rebuild the starter if you're into that sort of thing, but on your car it should be easy to replace the starter. Pull the battery ground wire first. I once didn't and wound up with a shower of sparks and a red hot wrench. As I frantically pulled it off the nut that connects it to the battery.

Sounds as if the starter is going out. Would be best to take it off if u can and take it to the autoparts store of ur choice and have the test it. (Redneck Hint) if the starter doesnt turn over hit it with a hammer or what not that will get u going again so u can take it to get it fixed. Not sure on ur car if the silanoid is built on ur starter or not but that could also be the prob.

you have a short in your ignition system still providing power to the starter
