You need to start your book with a hook that will catch your reader. Also you need to start your book with a major change in your main character's life.
The first sentence in my book's Prologue:
The odd procession made its way across the police station.

Well, are you talking about how would you begin to write the book, or how it would start as in the first line?
From personal expirence, it is almost impossible to write a book simply because you want to write a book. What I do is take a plot line from a book or a movie that I like and make extreme modifications. However, if I lose interest, I lose the plotline and charcters. I have three unfinished novels on my computer right now, simply because my thoughs turned elsewhere.
As far as how to start a book, that depends on what you are planning to write. Fiction? Nonfiction? Romance? War? Whatever you feel inaties the mood you are trying to create.
Good luck!

I'm a really nostalgic person, so I'd probably start mine with an intro scene that goes into a flashback of the main character's life.

With a scene that is not even related to the book.

Her nipples were large, round, and green; like two lilly pads sitting on top of perfectly shaped mounds of vanilla ice cream.
Now tell me, if that doesn't get the reader's attention, what will?

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; oops, I think Charles Dickens has already used that one.
