gameboy is an old handheld system, notable for it's green screen. there were 4 shades of 'color'. the graphics were not really that great. it never came with any games.
a few years later, they made a skinny one, called gameboy pocket.
a short while later, they made a gameboy color. this could play higher quality games, some games could even connect to each other. there was also more colors available, i think it went from the original 4 colors to 32 colors.
then came the gameboy advance. this had higher quality games, a full color LCD screen, and a nice library of decent games
then they made the gameboy SP to fix all of the errors of the regular gameboy advance. the battery is lithium ion, and could be recharged. the screen has a light inside the system. this inner light is what makes the difference, really.
there is also a gameboy micro. it's just a gameboy advance, with an inner light, and it's pretty small.
--------
none of the systems come with games.
some games are educational, most are for entertainment
you generally don't need any accessories. but ask that you have the ability to plug it in the wall. talk to the salesperson!
if you are planning on buying one, the gameboy advance SP is your best option. it might not be the cheapest, but the sheer cost in batteries in the other models might end up costing more than an SP
of course, you could also go for a DS - a newer nintendo handheld, that has a touchscreen for most of its games. - and it plays gameboy advance games too!

The GAMEBOY is a Handheld gaming system, first launched around 1989.... there are well over a thousand games for it (sold seperately), which now that the original system is long out of production can be picked up off Ebay for less than £5 second hand.... and some of them, such as "The Legend of Zelda" + "Super MarioLand" are among some of the greatest games ever created.
Has since been replaced by the GAMEBOY COLOR (swaps the black&white / green-screen with a color screen)...... which has in turn been replaced by the GAMEBOY ADVANCE, GAMEBOY ADVANCE SP + GAMEBOY ADVANCE Micro.
The Advance SP + the Micro have the best screens on them, but you can't play game cartridges from the original on the micro.
The Gameboy it's self seems to be getting phased out, and in it's place is the brilliant and vastly superior NINTENDO DS + NINTENDO DS Lite.

A gameboy is a gaming console, it is not provided with too many games, sometimes the retailer includes one or two with the console, most games are not educational but for entertainment, accessories are not generally "needed" per say, but depending on the game, you can use other accessories as in different cables and of course batteries to keep it charged.
