Bill collections is a problem for any company. There's a 'bad debt' factor that can range from 1% to 10%, depending on the industry / company.

If you had thought about this, - you would have had something in writing. And he knows you have nothing in writing, -so he's not too particularly worried.

He's not paying you because, he knows you were stupid enough to 'work' without a contract. He'd say stupid people don't deserve to be paid. He'd say stupid people deserve to be lied to, - concerning the 'check-is-in-the-mail' claims.

Chalk it up to life experience and if you want to be in 'business' then learn to cope with all the aspects with running a business. I doubt you can get 'friends' to help you out with 'picketing' more than 5 minutes. Besides, any news organization would see that this is a personal problem between you and your client, - and not cover it.

It doesn't sound what we would usually call "stingy". It sounds like he is being dishonest. There is a big difference. He owes you the money! Either he doesn't have it due to start up business expenses or he is hoping you will go away. Talk to him in person and offer to take partial payments over a period of time. If that doesn't work you can try the legal system which may not work unless you have access to a "small claims court". The tried and true method is to embarrass him in front of his friends and customers. Stand in front of his market with a small sign.."Joe owes me money and won't pay me". Good luck

That's awful! I hate it for you but it looks like he will NEVER pay you. Some people get rich by taking advantage of our good faith. Please do get a deposit upfront from your next client.

**And, if you have a public office- do POST his PHOTO and the beautiful work you did along with a big note across it that says
THANKS TO THIS ONE DEADBEAT CUSTOMER, I CAN NO LONGER ACCEPT WORK WITHOUT A DEPOSIT.

Post it to your website too if you have one.

Good luck in the future sweetie.
