Depends. Are you going to the other side of the country too?

In order of increasing cost:
1. Drive it yourself if you're staying there.
2. Drive it yourself and fly back home if you're not staying there. (note, sometimes a round trip ticket is cheaper than a one-way. Just don't use the return leg of your ticket)
3. Tow it behind whatever you are driving (with U-Haul tow dolly)
4. Ship via the service that matches cars with drivers needing to cross the country.
5. Find a trucker, ideally with a flat bed, at a local truck stop returning home empty. He'd rather get a little money than none at all. Of course, the next issue is getting your auto into his truck. Maybe without the right trailer it won't work for cars but it has worked for other items.
6. Sell your here and buy another like it there.
7. Send via train.
8. Send via air.
9. Completely dissassemble and ship the parts individually via UPS or the USPS. I'm kidding of course.

cheapest is DRIVE AWAY SERVICES ,just like in the movies ,strangers are turned loose with your car and drop it off at the other end-there are many companys that provide this service so proceed with caution .here is an idea ,find an NCO moving to the desired coast and give him half of what the drive away charges and pay for the tow dolly for his uhaul . I said NCO as they are reliable AND will have more stuff to move and will be renting a bigger truck-good luck

Cheapest way is to drive it yourself. Or tow it on a dolly behind a moving van if you are moving.
Auto transport companies charge quite a bit depending on the distance. Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $1000 or so.
