Tofurky is not that bad - you just have to find a flavor you like. I'm a vegetarian too and I don't eat anything that an animal has been killed for or treated cruely for. So a chicken broth would be a no. They make some great tasting vegetable broths and vegetarian gravy... I have a vegetarian/vegan/organic store by me that sells all that but even if you don't, Swanson makes a vegetarian vegetable broth and Pepperidge farms's stuffing has no meat in it. Beware of Stovetop - it DOES have meat! To replace the turkey, I am making a meatless meat loaf (made with ground lentils). But you can make anything: lasagna, eggplant parmesean... look on recipezaar.com or just do a search on google for vegetarian thanksgiving recipes! Good luck.
And remember: Every vegetarian saves the lives of more than 100 animals each year!!

I love Tofurkey, so if you think you will miss the Turkey, try it. I am one of those vegetarians who say no on the chicken broth or meat derived gravies, but its up to you where you want to draw the line. You can get some fake gravy too if you want to simulate the traditional meal. However, just make sure you have some nuts and beans in your fresh organic salad, and eat all the yams, tators, and pumpkin pie you want. You will not miss the turkey.

Chicken or beef broth is still an animal derivative. Have some salad, rolls, veggies, meat-free stuffing, cranberries and a big ol' slice of pumpkin pie!

You can decide for yourself what the boundaries of your vegetarianism would be. Some ppl are vegans all the way and some choose what they will allow. You may choose to make chicken/turkey broth acceptable for you if you wish.

This is funny, my daughter is a vegetarian, and she and her family love tofurky. According to her, any by products that are from a animal are not to be consummed in the vegetarian diet.

my best friend has been dating a true veggie for 3 years. he's been at my t'giving celebration for all of them. i always have both a turkey and a ham, but almost all of the 15-20 side dishes i serve are vegetarian. there are so many options. and trust me you won't miss the meat. i've had people who are omnivores, who have chosen just to eat the side dishes. and your friend is right, i've done tofurkey several times, i think it's nasty, but i have vegan friends, that eat tofu alot, and they love it. i think it just depends on your fondess for tofu!!
