My mom used to smoke-my sister and I made her quit! We put posters that we made telling her that she needed to quit smoking because we were worried and that the second hand smoke was bad for us up around the house. And we cut out obituaries of people who smoked and taped them to the walls. We told her that we didn't want to lose our Mommy to cancer or any of the nasty things that smoking can do to you. Got any ideas yet? Also, you could print out the benefits of quitting smoking and give them to her. Take her cigarettes from her and throw them away. I did that a couple times. Print out something about how harmful second-hand smoke can be to you. Beg her to quit! Do everything you can do to get her to quit! If she loves you she will quit. It might take a while, but don't stop trying to get her to quit! GOOD LUCK!!!

Perhaps something in the above series of articles will help you to help her. There are also related articles whose links are listed upper-left of the texts. I do hope she will listen to you, but ... Don't feel badly if she doesn't! It will probably take some time for her to 'come around', even if she does eventually respond positively. 'They' have to decide for themselves. We can only show them that we love them -- while at the same time, not making it easy for them to continue their addiction. That's called 'Tough Love'. It isn't easy or fun ... but, neither is watching someone kill themselves, or feeling that one might have been able to do more ... Just do what you can. Don't take responsibility for Her actions. Let her know exactly how Her behavior makes You feel. And pray ...

My kids tell me to quit smoking too, I really do want to quit badly, I have tried and haven't been successful yet, but, I will keep trying. Your Mom probably really wants to quit too, just be there and support her when she tries, she will probably try a few times before it actually works. I am going to buy the patches and see if that works. Good Luck to you and your Mom..

I would say, "Mom I really love you. I want you to stop smoking so you can be with me longer."
