First, become a good reader....read anything, everything, study styles, form, etc. Second, write - constantly, on a schedule, if it's just a journal/diary/etc. Lastly, use the web/library/school for classes, reference materials, etc. A ton of good stuff out there, magazines and books devoted to improving your craft. Then settle in a get a big file cabinet for the tons of rejection letters to come....

It depends a little bit on what type of writing you'd like to do, but a great way to get experience is by writing for local newspapers and magazines. You know, the kind you find in grocery stores and restaurants around your town. You won't get paid, but you'll gain experience and have clippings for your portfolio.
You can also volunteer to write for local non-profit agencies (press releases, fliers, brochures, etc.). They may not have anyone on staff that can, or wants to, write and would be happy for the help (again, no pay).
Another way is to find jobs in businesses that have copywriters or writing staffs (like ad agencies and magazines or newspapers). Begin looking for opportunities to show what you can do. Ask for a chance to write.
If you can proofread and/or edit, you can work your way into writing positions that way as well.
Just remember that you may have to do a lot of writing for free before you have enough experience and clippings of your work to be able to ask for actual money for your creativity.
I did these things and I've been a professional writer for 10 years now (people actually pay me to do what I love!)
Good luck!

read books first. books by the kind of writers you like. then u will automatically know what u want to write. if u have the flare u will do good. having a passion to write is important if u want to make it big. there should also be a healthy detachment to maintain the balance. read the book called THE ALCHEMIST by PAULO COELHO. u will get another idea.
GOOD LUCK!
Tell me when u publish your work,I love reading.
