Ooty, also called "Udhagamandalam," is considered Queen of Hill Stations. I visited Ooty after a long time. I was bit shocked to see the place completely changed. Ooty looks less greener and more crowded. The hotels are cheaper compared to North India. The food was not much tasty.

Lake
This year when we visited Ooty, we did not feel like buying tickets to go to the Ooty Lake for boating. Most part of the lake was covered by the plant floating on it. There were children's amusement rides built around the lake, which completely ruined its view. The place looks less green.

Botanical Garden
The garden was all right. If you are taking video camera, you will have to pay Rs.200/- and Rs. 25/- for the digital camera. The place is little bit crowded.

Toda's Village
The Toda's village is on the top of the garden. You can visit it from the right side of the garden. There are directions which can lead you to the village. However, you will not find the old housing style of the Toda's village. The Toda's Mund is changed into well built pacca modern houses. The only Mund that is not changed is the Toda's temple.

Marketplace
The marketplace is bit dirty. The roads nearby are not clean either.

The bus journeys to Ooty are unpleasant. Loud music are played all through the journey which makes your ear sore. The train journey to Ooty from Mettupalaym is pleasant. There is just one train to Ooty. You will have to be in Mettupalayam railway station before 7 a.m. to take the train.

I wished we had visited Kodaikanal instead of Ooty.

once upon a time nice and calm place. now it is not so. somewhat polluted. visit ooty but go to the nearest places so that you can enjoy the nature. stay in ooty and travel far away like mudhumalai, kothagiri if you can find some friends who owns tea estates stay there or visit there it may be good. except the gardens nothing special there only good climate. best time is Feb to April because it is not so much crowded. avoid may,June September because of crowd. august, October, November heavy rains and movement will be difficult example now the roads are closed even the railway, December, January extreme cold. but in December and January if you can enjoy the chillness then please visit. take suitable winter cloths sufficient money all the best NC

Ooty also known as Udagamandalam is the "Queen of hill stations" and the capital of Nilgiris district. It is one of the most popular tourist resorts in India. Nilgiris means "Blue Mountains". It is a land of picturesque picnic spots. Used to be popular summer and weekend getaway for the Britishers during the colonial days. It is situated at an altitude of 2,240 meters above sea level.
An added attraction for the tourists to Udagamandalam is the mountain train journey on a ratchet and pinion track which commences from Kallar, near Mettupalayam and wends its way through many hair-raising curves and fearful tunnels and chugs along beside deep ravines full of verdant vegetation, gurgling streams and tea gardens.
