My roommate smells utterly horrible. He showers daily, wears body spray, and washes his clothes, but he still stinks. I douse his side of the room with febreeze wheneever he leaves, but it still smells musty and disgusting. Moving out is not an option, although murder might be if I have to live with it much longer.

I feel sorry for you Marc, you should talk to your roommate that he may want to see a Dr about his problem. I know we had a good friend with stinky breath all the time and he went to a Dr and now smells great.

I've answered this question before here. Some people carry this condition with them for life. I knew a guy that was very bad. He told me he saw a doctor finally and the acids in his body created this odor on him. He showered sometimes three times a day to no avail.
Have your roomy see a doctor or an allergist, there is a control for this and good luck. You may have to move, I'm sorry.
P.S. the guy I knew remained unmarried for this reason and at 35 years old, had never been with a girl.

Bury him? You say musty? That usually means mildew. I don't know if it's possible to have a mildew "infection". But it is a living organism, and it smells nasty. Like old books in a damp cellar?
After he showers he could wipe himself down with hydrogen peroxide. Leave it on about 2-3min then rinse off. That should kill the mildew. Try that for a few days. And rewash all his clothes, towels, linen, blankets with a little Pine Sol or Lysol. Spray the mattress to. Mildew can be stubborn. Good Luck to both of you.

does he wash his towels and sheets? Is he overweight? Obese people sweat more. It might be a kindness to talk to him about it
He may have a foot odor problem which a doctor could help, or it could be a sign of other health problems.
