Ditto on the flour , you can also use corn starch or baking soda....if you ever cut one too short & its bleeding pretty bad & wont stop you can try medical liquid adhesive or even a small amount of crazy glue & NO IT WONT HURT THEM!!! also like i said if it wont stop bleeding try to double fold a gauze a apply pressure to the tip of the nail & then wrap the gauze in place w/ another gauze & medical tape & leave it alone for a bit that should do the job real well, at least it does for my lil pug, she has VERY long quicks & I nip her every so often....best of luck

Your dog will be fine. You might want to try to protect it from dirt, etc, if the wound is big enough.
Don't let the dog lick it too much. A few minutes is ok but if the dog obsesses on it, make her stop. If you have to try to distract her with something else for a while.

It's easy to do. That's one reason why we take our Golden Retriever to our nice vet. She never seems to cut too short.
We used to have show rabbits and their nails needed to be clipped often. I kept alum on hand for any bleeding toenails. It's in the spice section of your grocery store. It works great! And is cheap.
Have your vet show you how to clip the nails. If the nails are white you can see where the "quick" is and avoid cutting into that.

There's a powder you should have on hand if you're clipping dog nails. I think it's called styptic powder, and it will help clot up the blood flow.
I just let my vet do it, as my doggie kind of goes nuts when I try myself. I can do it, but only with a couple of helpers. He's one strong little dude. Good luck with yours.

Put some flour on it to help it clot and try to get him to stop licking it.
