I know this is true, but I can't figure out why. I thought that it could be that people have more loyalty to a university than a city or that in college football, 1 loss most likely spells the end of a national championship run, while in pro, you can lose 3 or 4 and be ok. Or could it be something else? Why is college football more exciting?

More teams, better fans, closer games, better rivalries, school spirit, pride, more games on saturday, bigger stadiums, bowl games, their tie breaking system, trying to go undefeated, and every game counts.

because it's not being played for monetary reasons. The NFL is all about money. The NFL is a BILLIONS of dollars a year juggernaut, a money making machine!! The average person pays about $45 to watch a game at the stadiums. The league commands billions for the tv network rights.

College is different. Many of the kids playing in the college level are poor or middle class, and yet, are going to a major university. yes, some get scholarships to play football, but they're not getting a penny by playing the game, unlike the NFL. It makes me mad that there are USC Reggie Bush jerseys, but Reggie never gets a dime from their sales. Then they wonder why it's such a temptation to secretly hang around an agent, who might pay them a little bit of the money that they will someday see when they get to the NFL. Many athletes are from poor families, and the player wants to buy his mom a house NOW! He knows that he will some day get to the big league and get millions a year.

college is more exciting because there is no monetary advantage of winning. It's all based on playing a game, and helping your team win. There will be no monetary award for your efforts. When you get to the big league, THEN it becomes all about the money.

Like stated above, well over majority of these players will not be playing on the next level so they are playing knowing this is it for them in football. No money involved, just passion for the game which is how is should be played. Also the rivalries. Don't get me wrong but professional rivalries are not really there anymore. The Redskins and Giants? Pats and Colts? I don't know. It just doesn't matchup with classics like OSU and Michigan, Navy and Army, FSU and Miami, ND and USC... Lastly which is probably the biggest is the atmosphere from the college fans just going crazy. There is nothing like sitting in the fan section of a good crowd during a competitive battle. Nothing.

I think pro football is more exciting. I like college football on TV. I once went to watch the Texas Longhorns play Baylor and to me it was just a small notch above high school football. JMO

I personally think that college football is more fun and exciting to watch because they are still playing because they love the game, not because they are receiving millions of dollars to play. Better yet, our highschool team went to the state tournament this year, talk about exciting!!!It seems as though pro athletes become a bit tainted by all of the bucks they get paid, the game loses focus.

I agree.....The heart of the game seems lost in the NFL. Not only with the money issue, but there seems to be no respect, loyalty, or class with a lot of the Pro Players. They openly bash their coaches and other team mates, and are only out for themselves. ("T.O." for example... makes me sick!) I really just don't enjoy it.

But... I live for college football. (GO IRISH!)
