Yet they do it constantly & expect poverty stricken ppl to pay huge recconnect fees & late bills!
How can we get them to honor the law & their own payment plans they supposedly have for unfortunate ppl?
Better yet,how can we get them to stop charging such rediculous prices?
This is what de-regulation has done to us in America, kids!I believe in free interprise, but licience to rob & steal? Give me a break!

Turning off power should be made humanely by giving consideration to users by increasing the number of days as grace period for payment of dues since reconnection fees are exorbitant.

I've lived in three different states and in each of them, the power companies always supply information with each bill on how disabled or senior citizens can advise the power company of their status. They also request a family member's contact information in the case of a 'disconnect' status that the family member can be contacted to see if there is a problem.

In addition, they have the programs wherein the low income people can sign up for assistance in payment programs.
They all also had 'bundget' payments where you pay the same amount every month and don't get slammed in the winter with a huge bill.

Maybe it's time these folks read their bills and apply for some
of these programs and/or get the assistance of loving family members to assist them in signing up for them.

As long as a 'payment' of any kind is made....they don't disconnect.

They also send out numerous notices before they disconnect!!

It sound like the folks you are talking about ....just aren't paying and want something for nothing.

Actually I do not believe that it is against the law to turn off the power of a disabled person. Nor should it be. People who are disabled enjoy more rights and freebies than the rest of us. Heck most of them aren't really disabled. They just "don't feel like getting out of bed somedays". I actually had someone tell me that was why she drew a check.

So if you can show me that it is illegal for the power company to cut the power to a disabled person, I will rescind my comment and join your little rebellion.
