I was going to write a snide comment, because I've asked this question too. But come on, be real. How many great women mathematicians can you name?

Or great painters (especially pre-20th ca)?

Or great leaders?

Inventors?

Musicians?

Orators?

Philosophers?

Lawmakers?

Very few, I bet, which leads to the conclusion that women aren't good at these type of things, which is complete BS. There are two reasons you haven't heard of women in these fields: First, women have been discouraged from pursuing these fields (sometimes to the point of death), and usually pay horrible prices if they succeed; and second, when despite the odds they DO succeed, their names are brushed away under the rug of history.

Ever hear of Lise Mietner? You should have. In a fair world, her name would be up there with Bohr, Dirac, Heisenberg, Schrodinger, even Einstein as one of the pillars of modern physics. Instead, she's relatively unknown. She is the victim of two tragedies - despite her brilliance, during life she had work stripped from her for being a Jew, and after death she had her accomplishments stripped from her for being a woman.

It's not fair.

That's why there should be Women's Studies. If for no other reason than there might be a brilliant mind out there right now wondering why she is different, when in actuality she's following an unbroken, if unknown, line of great women.

PS - women's studies does not preclude men's studies. If there were interest, there would be men's studies.

Jesus actually by no ability reported "call no guy father...." by way of fact he did no longer communicate English. English is a mongrel language. It has absorbed many different languages. subsequently an identical be conscious can mean something completely distinctive in accordance to how that's getting used. yet another component words address new meanings. Bing Crosby sung a music the place he reported he felt "happy and gay." The be conscious "gay" did no longer have an identical which ability. additionally we've many words for an identical component. So the English translators shows to apply the be conscious "Father." a great form of people with their literal interpretations do no longer comprehend in the long-term they are not analyzing the unique textual content textile. yet you won't be able to argue with them. they're too thick headed. i understand as quickly as i grew to become into talking and that i reported something approximately John the Baptiser. a woman who's Baptist have been given very disillusioned. That wasn't suited! I defined the words mean an identical and that's barely a remember of which be conscious the translator chosen. some Catholic Bibles have Baptist and a few have Baptiser. somebody got here up the be conscious utilized in Aramaic. She needed to do understand which grew to become into it Baptist or Baptiser. the respond she have been given - the definition is one that baptises.

Women's studies and all other politically correct nonsense was created by rich white men to reinforce in the minds of women and other minorities that they are inferior little creatures in need of government protection, thereby continuing their own exploitation, and keeping them out of the professions.

When a black man wants to be a lawyer or a doctor a white liberal will be sure to say now you should be in touch with your culture, you should be an outreach worker for jailed youth don't be a lawyer that's acting too white!!!! youre selling out on your own culture!

this is how white men keep oppressed groups out of the professions by claiming that getting into the professsions they are somehow selling out their own kind.

whats interesting is that women are in fact a majority but behave like an oppressed minority. These groups just set themselves up for failure. Its the same reason why ethnic racial minority groups go nowhere as well.

liberal quotas and affirmitive action only reinforce womens negative self image and reinforces the fact that would never be where they are without government protection and government intervention becuase society does not really place any real in their ability to lead and govern.

White men are not supposed to complain we are just supposed to quietly get into the professions and make money and let the silly minorities argue over who has what rights and stage their silly little protests.

i dont believe in that im just merely stating how liberalism hurts women and other disaffected groups and why we must stop the liberal handout system of preferential treatment.

America tries to foster politically correct attitudes towards minorities or those who have had less power in history. The latter applies more to women, since men make more money, have always had more power in several aspects of life (i.e. politics), and, until recently, have had little privileges that men had (i.e. right to vote). So, when women have done powerful, impacting things in the past, they are recognized to a large degree, since they not only had to invent/create/etc. something that has impacted history/our culture, but also had to overcome the sexist state of a male-dominated society. Although not nearly as much, women still experience hurdles that men do not experience, such as lower wages, sexual harassment, etc. So, in order to understand this "more complex" role that women have to undergo in our society, some universities/colleges have this as a major/minor.

That's the politically correct/sensitive answer to the issue. I've actually known people who have done independent studies with professors concerning male issues (or "Men's Studies"), and have produced interesting academic papers/projects. My personal opinion is that if we're really going to be equal, both should be accepted fields of study, but I think part of the problem is that no one has shown an interest (or has the courage to) in "Men's Studies." You're likely to get criticized by pretentious/self-righteous people who think men have it easy enough and do not undergo issues as complex as women.

Women in America were not recognized as important members of society until recently. They were also seen as the mother and homemaker and never as an innovator or worker. This makes them an interesting subject to study. Most people don't realize women such as Clara Barton (founder of red cross) Rosa Parks (advocate for African American Rights) and Jane Addams (founder of Hull House, a resource center for the poor during the late 19th century), to name a few contributed greatly to American History. You can learn about all of the great men of America just by taking an American History course, but to really learn about great American Women, you'd have to take a Women's Studies course.
