The House of Leaves
The Red and the Black
The Courtesan
The Queen's fool
The Count of Monte Cristo

These are just the first in reach of a number of books I checked out from the library today. Has anyone read them? Enjoyed them? Despised them?
Also I intended to check out The Red Tent as well but it was checked out already. Has anyone read that? I really want to read it and no one I know has even heard of it so I'm very curious to see what people think of it.

Reverse Order --

Count of Monte Cristo. Good "Stuck in Jail" read.

The Queen's Fool. Good "by the pool" read.

The Courtesan. Good "in the hammock" read.

The Red and the Black. Good "I'm Pretending to Be Deep" read.

The House of Leaves. Good "I heard that Poe song too" read.

Red Tent is spectacular. One of my favorite books. probably helps if you're at least semi into Biblical stuff. the Red and the Black, pretty boring if you're not ready to really concentrate! a dense read. a classic, of course, as are most of what's on your list! you'll learn more than you ever wanted to know about that period in French history, if you have a version with footnotes. Count of Monte Cristo, like everything by that author, think he has a nice readable style. that's all i can help with!

The Red Tent is excellent and gets you to thinking about the women of the Bible. So often they are ignored.

The Count of Monte Cristo is also very good. I've not read the others.
