There are a few viable answers to your question.
My first answer is much the same as everyone else... somneone with a lot more money than sense.
This includes the parents that, for whatever reason, think they HAVE to get a PS3 for their kid(s) regardless of the cost.
The other big answer I see (that I've already seen) is the people that want the exclusivity of being one of the few PS3 owners on release day or soon after. Why this is remains beyond my scope, but I can say that if some fool offers me that kind of cash for the console my wife managed to snag from our preorder... I'll have to apologize to the kids for selling their Christmas present.

wow that is a lot of money. man think of how many games and accessories you can buy with all that money. but for that you just get the system.
edit- i did not see the +5 games but you can just get all that for under 1100 (thats still a hefty sum, though). i also saw a ps3 that was starting at 1000 and it was only 60mb. yes i know it said MB, not GB, which makes it useless.

Probably some little rich brat who'll beg mommy and daddy to buy it for them. Screw that, I'm going to wait about a year to see if there's any bugs in the system that will get fixed later.

listen, the people that tried to get a PS3, but didn't are so pissed that they place a really high bet and the day before is over, they pull from it, so don't pay attention to those things they are just doing it to piss the guys who bought a PS3 just to sell it on ebay. it's not fair for the other guys who want to play it.
ps: i did get the PS3 and i freaking love it!!!

i know its insane i just checked out ebay theres someone on there asking for $45,000 US starting bid or 500k buy it now with 75% going to red cross. Who knows if any of these sellers are actually credible. CRAZY !!! but hey if you have the money to throw away go nuts!
