i work with a guy who bought a woman for $5000.00 is there such a thing.if so why are there no laws to prohibit this?

Yes at present the human slave trade is growing in Africa and certain middle eastern countries. I have seen first hand how children and women have been sold off. Most slave trade is done for sexual acts were by the offender normally kills the child or women once sexual gratification has been reached. China has quite a following with regard to this matter.
