There is no such thing as a 'fair chance'. We are all influenced by what people say and other people's opinions. If you hear something about someone, it's impossible not to bring that into consideration, even subconsciously.

Also, people tell you things sometime for good reasons. If your friend tells you that a certain guy is a sleaze, then you might want to play it safer around him than normal. Don't prejudge completely, don't shut out, don't hurt the other people because of what people say, but don't ignore all advice or information about them, either.

I always give people a fair chance because I have been judge by hearsay that was not true and it really hurt my feelings. There are people that have actually apologized to me and said that their thoughts about me were wrong and that I am really a nice person. I didn't like how it felt to be judged that way so I promised myself not to judge anyone by hearsay,
