The stuff in school is very watered down and artificially sweetened. It's already bad enough that millions of Jews were murdered, why tell the kids that a whole bunch of others were too?

That's an interesting point:
German Holocaust total Casualties: 10,000,000 approx
Jewish Casualties: 6,000,000 approx
The other four million are left out. Not to mention the Japanese holocaust that killed another ten million during the same time...
Maybe it's because the history book authors don't want sympathy for the many communists killed in the holocaust?

I agree. Half of the discussions of the Holocaust only seem to say that 'six million Jews were killed'. Granted that was genocide, however the five million others should at least get some sort of honorable mention...

Probably because it's a tough and depressing topic to teach or discuss. I think schools should teach more about the Holocaust, because everyday a Holocaust survivor dies, children need to know so they can pass the history and true stories of the Holocaust on to other children.
who would otherwise never know.
The more educated you are about the Holocaust, the more easier it is to discuss.

why dont they teach the truth about thanksgiving being a massacure, or the largest genocide and holicost in history happening here with my people, American Indians? Because the history books and classes are controlled by those who publish and edit the books! For years George Armstrong Custer was considered a hero, as was Kit Carson, but the truth is they attacked narmed villiages full of women and children, theymurdered and raped and pilliaged our people, but the turth doesnt die, as long as people surrive it will be sxposed to those who listen with an open mind!

Holocaust information is controlled by certain interests. These people would have you believe that Jews were the only people killed, but in all reality they killed just about anyone who did not agree with them. Homosexuals, Blacks, Orthodox, Greeks, Turks.

That's nothing. At least you hear about it and get a brief overlook of what happened to the Jews in school. How many of you have ever heard of The Rape of Nanking and what the Japs did to the Chinese during WW2? Now that will shock the crap out of you.
I agree with kissmybum. Way too PC!

Because a lot of people used that fact to minimize the effect the holocaust had on Jewish people. Some people take it as saying "see, other people got targeted too, so you don't deserve any recognition"

Good point.
In our town's Holocaust Memorial Day, we also honor the millions of non-Jews killed.

Among other groups murdered by Hitler and the Third Reich: Homosexuals; mentally ill; mentally retarded; handicapped and disabled; the infirm elderly; orphans; and other racial and ethnic minorities, as well. And don't forget the religious minorities, like Jehovah's Witnesses.
The term used by the Third Reich to describe such groups: "Useless eaters".
