I know I will get a lot of slack for this, but I think it all stems from how they are raised. Parents don't believe in spanking anymore.
I was spanked and knew from the beginning of knowing that there are consequences to any actions. Children who are not spanked have no fear of anything they do. They will just get a time out or spoken to.
I have seen it from a child to a man. A family member of mine was raised without punishment of almost any kind. I used to tell his mother he would end up in jail for this. And where is he now at age 21? You guessed it.
His whole life, he did whatever and never had consequences. This makes children believe they can get away with anything really and not have to face what they have done. Now this person has to face what he has done.
I told her when he was little and smart mouthing everyone that he would never hold down a job because a boss will not take mouth back. He did not make it through school because he would not listen to teachers and always had smart remarks. His mother blamed that on the teachers. Yes, every teacher he had was bullying him. He did nothing wrong.
Whatever PEOPLE, children cannot just be told something and be expected to understand. They have to be shown they have done a wrong thing.
Oh no, parents don't want to be feared. They think spanking teaches the child to hit. Whatever. These parents are ruining the future of their children's lives.

THANK YOU!!! Finally someone understands where I'm coming from!
You couldn't be more right about gaining wisdom from consequences. That is why (at least in my opinion) lots of people today don't have much common sense or morals or anything, because they always get out of having consequences for their actions, therefore never learn anything from them. This is why we are so lawsuit-crazy, because people cannot accept the fact that they did something wrong and must pay for it, but instead try to place that blame on someone else (and sadly some end up winning in the end). If this is what the world is like now, I can't imagine how it will be like in 20 or 30 years.

Our world has changed considerably and it seems like moral standards and personal responsibility have become as extinct as the dinosaur. Still I believe there are some bright lights in this darkness and a few moments in time when people really do "reap what they sow". While we can't control the behaviors of others we can strive towards living our personal lives in a manner that helps to make this world a better place and perhaps serve as an example that someone else may follow.

I believe in consequences for our actions. I believe that when we make choices or decisions we need to know that we will be held accountable. If we stop believing we will then there is no hope. I don't care if someone trys to say they didn't know what they were doing or they were under the influence, or mentally ill. If we wanted to we could come up with a million reasons or excuses to why we do what we do. It doesn't matter. What matters is that people know that if they are going to steal, hurt someone, abuse someone, etc., that there will be repercussions.

Whether or not you believe in consequences, they always happen. Perhaps not right away, but they do come around.
Drinking and driving will eventually lead to arrest, colisions, or death.
Drug use can lead to financial ruin, lost jobs, damaged brains and bodies, hepatitis, etc.
Some think they are getting away with things, but they always find their morals slipping, and face loss of trust. The kind of people we are determines the sort of children we raise. In the end, it all comes around.
