If so, how and where do you rub?

In my birthing class, they said if you press on her ankles (like 4 inches above the ankle bone) it could help with the pain--but that it could also induce her labor.

However, with everything I've read, even that may not help induce her labor. The more common ones are stripping the membranes (at DRs), walking, sex, and castor oil (sp?)--but even these won't help unless she's within a day of going into labor anyway.

Rubbing her feet WILL help her feel better and more relaxed for labor--and, who knows? Helping her relax may help her go into labor... :)

Possibly. There is a certain spot on the bottom of a woman's foot that induces contractions, but I'm not sure that it induces labor. I DO know that orgasms can cause contractions that can lead to labor. Have fun!

I haven't heard that one, but here are some others:

Walking
Sex
Caster Oil
Spicy food-I don't reccomend that one
Nipple stimulation:Some women massage their nipples as a way to induce labor. This stimulation brings about the release of oxytocin, which is the natural form of pitocin. Oxytocin causes contractions, which sometimes evolve into labor.

I've heard that rubbing the back of a pregnant womans ankles would cause labor because it stimulates the uterus.

any stimulation to the feet can cause a contraction late in pregnancy. that is why they tell women do not get pedicures or feet massages that late in term. there are all kinds of pressure points in the feet that can trigger many things. i would suggest talking to the doctor if you want to get labor started. good luck :)
