first off - i promise to you I am a TBS expert. so i know this :]
Well, Eddie started the band and he was with the original members (adam & sean, mark, john) so they were at one of those house concerts for Ed's friends and they played a song called ''Taking Back Sunday'' and TBS liked it so they asked if they could use it for a band name. Adam even made a joke saying ''and so we asked them if we could use the band name and.. they said no. so we took them out back and ..you know " lol it was on youtube so he was like motioning arm punches :] ok i hope that helps you!
basically they got it from a another bands song name!

it originated from a song by another band on the long island music scene.....and it did not come from the smith's b-side, that was just something the guys said as a joke
