My car is messed up. I have asked a question about it on here before. So here is whats going on. I have a 97 ford taurus. My AC didnt work during the summer. My heat now dosent work. It blows hot for like 30 secounds then blows out cold air. My coolant level in the radiator is fine. I have changed the theramstat. What else could be wrong and how much will it cost to fix it? Would I be able to fix it my self or do I need to have it profesionally done keeping in mind that i know little to nothing about cars. Please help me

Thank you for all your answers!!!

Sound like you have a vacuum leak,
Vacuum controls doors and dashpots for the heater/AC.
Ck under the hood while running for a hissing leak trace the little plastic and rubber hoses for the intake manifold to the fire wall, you should find the cracked or broken hose.

If not it might be at the controls in side.

Given that this is the THIRD time you've posted about the SAME problem with your vehicle, you obviously haven't resolved your concern. Yugie29 and I have already posted advising you to flush out the heater core. Have you done this PROPERLY? But, first and foremost, have you verified your temperature select switch operating correctly? Do you hear a change in the movement of the temperature blend door actuator, when you select between FULL hot, and FULL cold? If it's operating, that only leaves a coolant FLOW issue, into and out of the heater core. If you are getting proper flow through the heater core, that only leaves a broken blend door and/or failed blend door actuator as the cause. Are you careless about leaving loose objects lying on top of your instrument panel? Is there a chance that a foreign object could've fallen down through the defroster vents into the chamber causing the blend door to jam, or break?

You have a problem with the blend door. If anything was wrong with your heater core, it would probably be leaking, since it's too new for the core to be clogged.

There is no valve on this car to control the water going to the heater core either. The hot and cold air is adjusted with the blend door, and it is stuck in the cold position.

If I lived near you, I'd come over and find the problem for a sixpack.

This happened to me once. A plastic cap/seal from the pres-tone refill bottle had fallen into the radiator fill opening, and I didn't know it. So one day I was trying to figure out the problem and had the radiator cap off, when the thermostat started opening and closing I saw the cap float past the opening, it was plugging the flow in the radiator I had to fish it out with some needle nose pliers, but it sure did fix the mystery problems.

Most heating systems are basically the same they have two hoses one brings hot water to the heating core after the engine warms up usually between 180-200 degrees, the other hose brings that same hot water back to the engine.there is a control valve that you open when you turn on the heat if you can find it check to see if it opens and closes. My guess is its bad,or your heater core is blocked which means you have to take both heater hoses off the engine and hook up a water hose and flush out the core.

It sounds like a heater core to me as well, Check the inlet and outlet pipes to the heater core and see if they're hot and pressurized. A good bleed of the system may help, but i wouldnt count on it. Could also be the blend door. Check to make sure thats working. And make sure you've got vacuum or power going to the control unit.

Sounds like a heater core at the worst (about $400 to fix) and you cannot do it yourself.

The least expensive could be a broken "butterfly valve" . Ask a trusted mechanic about it.

If the freon has escaped from the system your AC won't work and the heat may not work because of the AC.

your coolant may appear to be fine but you may still need to bleed the system, including the heating bleeder and the coolant bleeder. Try that It made mine work.
