Assuming you have the original Dell CD, reinitialize the system which erases everything and copies the original disk image onto the drive.
If you don't have the original disk, start with DOS, Win XP, Win 2000, or any other original OS and FDISK the disk. Delete all partitions. Add a new partition, format the partition, then reinstall all software from this start from scratch installation.

Great Question and thank you for particpating. To completely "format" your hard drive and then "partition" it to get it ready can be done by simply inserting your original Windows Installation Cd or Restore CD into your cd rom and then restart the computer and during the restart, it will boot using the cd and then show you a menu of choices. You'll be able to "repair" your present copy (and hopefully without disturbing all of your programs, documents, etc) or to completly remove your present Windows and install a fresh, new copy. You'd of course lose everything that's presently on the hard drive. Best part of that is, it not only will give you a new, well working copy of Windows, but will also remove any and all viruses, trojans, spyware, keyloggers, etc., that may have very well been the Cause of the Problems you're having now. Let me know if I can help in any way. Larry RadioShack 01-9590

1. Insert the system restore disk as soon as you turn on the computer.
2. Hit F1,Del, or whatever key you have to to get into your system BIOS.
3. Make sure your computer is set so that the CD-ROM drive with the system CD is the primary start-up device and escape the bios setup and save changes.
4. Next the computer will re-boot and a message will appear saying "Press any key to boot from CD." Hit a key.
5. You will get into Windows XP setup as you go along it will give you the option to delete the current partition delete it then it will ask you to reformat.
Your best bet when you re-format is to reformat with an NTFS partition but not quick format use the regular format.
